Simple but important 5/10 NL hand
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $5 BB (9 handed) converter
saw flop|saw showdown UTG+1 ($471.85) Hero ($1072) Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero calls $10, UTG+1 raises to $20, 1 fold, MP2 calls $20, 1 fold, CO calls $20, 2 folds, BB calls $10, Hero calls $10. Flop: ($105) 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) BB checks, Hero bets $70, UTG+1 raises to $140, MP2 folds, CO folds, BB folds, Hero folds. Basically, the 2 minraises scared me. Is this a rational fold? |

Re: Simple but important 5/10 NL hand
in general I'm not worried about a big pair when someone minraises me preflop. I don't think folding a marginal hand to repeated aggression is ever all that terrible, but it really does not look like he has a hand here. only thing I'm worried about in this spot is TT or 77, unless the player is very loose. it looks to me like he has overcards or something like that and wants a free card.
that said, I am not crazy about putting a lot of money in on the flop, just because it sets me up to play a big hand. --turnipmonster |

Re: Simple but important 5/10 NL hand
I was watching this hand live, and I think you made a good fold.
Depends on the player, but I thought one of you guys had an overpair. I didn't see either one of you guys having queens or higher. He could have just as soon had eights as jacks, or worse sevens. Plus, you know if you cold call he's gonna fire again regardless of the turn card, so you're looking at a huge pot after the turn regardless if you raise or call. Don't see investing that much money on nines as your overpair. Just my opinion |

i generally don't like sending the message that pansy shortstacks can push me off hands by min-raising me.

Zee. . I was at that table man. . please don't post doctored up hand histories to prove some kind of a point. .
You called that min. raise, a Jack hit the turn, then you folded to his bet. That's the truth. |

please don't post doctored up hand histories to prove some kind of a point [/ QUOTE ] I'm not trying to prove a point. I'm trying to learn how to play better poker. I felt the hand would make for the best discussion the way I posted it. |
