It does follow. You basically just listed off the hands that could beat us. Do I really need to list off the hands that we beat? Because I don't have time for that. You have top pair solid kicker against a moron who minraised from the button. If you're going to fold anytime you don't flop the nuts against guys like this, so be it. But you're missing out on a lot of value.

Kyro beat to this punch and I agree...OP gave his read and I thinks its solid to enough to say that this type of player will also play all of those hands we are ahead of very similarly. He might lose this hand, but overall I think extracting value is the way to go with this hand.

I like your line quite a bit and would likely take it in a vacuum. Nice hand.

I like the line too. I tend to play check-call instead of sudden reversal against these types of players who are aggro wildcard players.

[ QUOTE ]

If he's as bad as you say, why didn't you put more pressure on him on the turn?

[/ QUOTE ]

kyro,
I didn't want to lose him, but I did want to extract value. I would be open to a line that bet more on the turn, but I think that leaves me with an all-in no matter what on the river, and I think as this hand played with the call on the turn, I could have found a fold if a 4th spade came on the river, correctly or not I don't know.

[ QUOTE ]
If you don't think he'd call a river value bet, then I think a check is correct.

[/ QUOTE ]

Scuba Chuck,
I agree, and that's the reason I checked here (thought he'd only call if I was beat, which may have been a mistake in retrospect); it's often hard to get these specific reads early on. Also a river check after my previous action (1/2 pot bet) appears weak, and I thought I may induce a bluff.

pineapple888,
I feel your frustration, so if it helps, assume you were playing this hand against a slightly below average loose $11 player who accidentally bought into a $55. He's not good. I think there is real value in chip extraction with these types of hands in these types of situations, though I appreciate your dissent and point of view.

I think you played the hand great. Anyone who says anything about "fold preflop" or some nonsense really needs to examine their game.
