Three-Betting A9s and Other Silly Shenanigans

I think I may have gone overboard here. I like my line post-flop, but pre-flop was a bit odd. There's backstory:

The pre-flop limper is like a 35% VPIP donkey. The button here is a player against whom I'm playing two tables. At the other table, we had tangled in one hand heads-up where he had check-raised the flop and had very quickly mucked to one turn raise. He seems like a pretty decent tag, and may well be one of you all. He's 14/9/3.15 over about 250 hands but he was losing over those hands which may explain the lowish pfr. So his stats look right in line and he can fold a decent hand.

My basic thought is that my nemesis here is trying to isolate the donkey, and might be doing so with a very wide variety of hands. I feel I have too much of a hand to fold, and prefer to either force the donkey to put in more bets where I probably have an equity edge on him, or to get the hand heads-up with iniative in a padded pot where I may well be ahead. Too ambitious? (My thought is this reraise is automatic with AJ... what about AT and A9?)

i dunno i like it. i'd definetly see him turning over AK or AQ probably with a diamond in hand a good portion of the time. he could have a smaller pair too. i guess you're certaintly in the right a large portion of the time here the only question is what is the better line to take.

Postflop looks good, but 3-betting from the SB with A9s seems kinda bleh to me. You're putting in 8 to win 22 which is like 2.75:1 with a good, but not great hand. But you're out of position. I guess its +EV is you know Bttn is raising light here and will fold quietly is he misses. If Bttn is the kind to defend tenaciously then I'd say 3-betting is bad.

Provided the button has a relativly generous raise-distribution i think 3beting is correct. (And I guess a lot of good TAGs would consider this a raise or fold situation.)

you are giving the button WAY too big of a range of hands, he has a PFR that is 12% less than this range.

Please stop using PokerStove to make preflop decisions; please realize that there is a lot more to Hold'em than just preflop equity.

I like your preflop play.

I would maybe consider 3-betting the flop here - its very likely we are still ahead in this spot. If it gets capped then I probably just call down unless a fourth diamond hits.

What was your logic for choosing a stop-n-go on the flop vs a 3-bet?
