Default KJo in BB, Defending the steal

Alright guys, my first post on here in a LONG time. Haven't played at all since October, when I quit cold-turkey to focus on grad school. But summer's almost starting and I'm on top of work, so I'm just starting to get back into it.

Anyway, I've always considered defending my big blind one of my weakest areas. I used to fold way too much, so I'm trying to work on it. Here's one hand that I'd like input on. Haven't been at the table long, but my impression of this guy is that he's not an idiot.

Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
7 folds, Button raises, 1 fold, Hero calls.

Flop: (4.33 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (3.16 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets, Hero raises, Button calls.

River: (7.16 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Button calls.

Final Pot: 9.16 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Kh Js (two pair, jacks and fours).
Button has As Ah (two pair, aces and fours).
Outcome: Button wins 9.16 BB.

Looks good to me. You should have lost more; fortunately, button got gunshy on the turn.

BTW, what are you studying in grad school?

Good, but are you comfortable playing the turn if an A comes down?

If an ace falls on the turn, I think I'm still check-raising the turn. I fold to a re-raise, and if he calls then I'm check-calling the river. I don't have much of a read on this guy yet, so I don't think folding to a bet on the river is correct at this point, even if the ace is scary.

So one question I have - is the check-call on the flop with what seemed like the best hand at the time a good strategy in order to check-raise the turn? Or is is better to check-raise the flop instead?

sweetjazz - I'm studying mechanical engineering (thermal/fluids). My research is focusing on microdrop formation, the kind of technology that is used in inkjet printers.

I'd have reraised preflop. As for the results...the fact you got unlucky doesn't invalidate that it was a good blind defense.
