Default Some hands from yesterdy\'s PP WSOP party points freeroll

About 500 runners start, we are down to the last 20 (could have been 30, but I think 20). I am 4th in Chip stack, but barely in 2nd chip position at my table. If you love a good implosion, read on.

Table chip-leader built up stack by the occasional steal, winning races against short stacks, and occasionally showing a real PP. Solid stuff. He had recently lost a small race to get him down to around my stack size. With him on my right, I have avoided big hands with him. Occasionaly semi-stealing out of ep when he is in the blinds, but that was maybe twice in 10 rounds at this table. I also built my stack in similar fashion to him.

This is a winner take all tourney, so although play tightened a bit as we got down in numbers, large blinds, short stacks, and the need to win all of the chips did keep action flowing.

Hand 1: I don't think I did that poorly with my play, but as I lost a fair chunk of my stack, you decide.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t800 (10 handed) converter

SB (t26579)
BB (t11484)
UTG (t23341)
UTG+1 (t26118)
UTG+2 (t26663)
MP1 (t43833)
MP2 (t9044)
MP3 (t27536)
Hero (t41561)
Button (t16550)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
3 folds, MP1 calls t800, 2 folds, Hero raises to t2300, 3 folds

MP1-the table chip leader has occasionally limped in, though he usually open raised. I figured being a big stack he could limp with a variety of hands, but not absolute trash. Although I usually avoided hands with him, I felt with position, and a hand that can improve and be surprising, I would try to steal.

, MP1 raises to t7700, Hero calls t5400.

Villian reraised. I believe my biggest mistake was not letting go right here.

Flop: (t16600) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 bets t800, Hero raises to t6800,

Not a good flop for me, but If he gave action with a smaller PP, and no Ace, I thought raising here was important, and could win the pot. My raise was smallish compared to pot size, but large compared to stack sizes, we both get pretty comitted beyond this amount.
MP1 raises to t12800, Hero folds.

Final Pot: t36200

Easy fold at this point?! - I can't even beat a bluff.

About 10 Hands Later I am up to 30k, and I look to steal I have A4os.

Rut Roh, two came along. I probably should have raised a bit more.

Flop: (t6800) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)

Grrrr, I Really hate catching a weak piece on a steal.

BB checks, Hero bets t6100, BB folds, Hero calls t7468.

The converter may have messed up, But I bet out strong. Button comes over the top all-in. Pot is paying me about 3-1 to call. I do believe I am behind, but I call any way. Is this right?

Turn: (t20368) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: (t20368) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: t20368

I get no help.

With a couple of timely steals I am at 19K. There are 13 left, so each table is shorthanded. Blinds now 750/1500
Villan from hand one, now tourney chip leader is still on my right. It is folded to him in the SB. He open raises to 4150. I wake up with 88.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t1500 (7 handed) converter

CO (t68754)

Hero (t19315)
UTG (t10300)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
5 folds, SB raises to t4900, SB calls t14415.

I pushed in the BB (converter may have missed that. I think he is likely on a steal, and I need to play the 88.

I may have been better off with a stop & go though he acts 1st on the flop.

Flop: (t20815) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)

Turn: (t20815) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

River: (t20815) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: t20815

Thoughts on the third hand?

All in is fine. You're nearly a "trouble" stack, and you're unlikely to get a better hand for a while.

But just a call is fine too. It is suspicious to him; he may suspect a monster. It's about 1/4 of your stack; you could still have a chance in the tourney if you lost no more. And you have position; going all in kills that advantage.

It's a close call, and I'd decide based on the read you have of him, and the way you've defended your big blind in the past.

IMHO, neither way is very wrong, and it's a place you should vary your play.
