I was thinking of 11 and it told me I was thinking of 7. How craptacular.

[/ QUOTE ]

i read in an article, i believe it was esquire, that if you force someone to think of a number between one and ten quickly, a distinct majority will say 7.

the article was about the best guys in the world at hitting on chicks.

Interesting game here. For the first puzzle, I thought of 6 and not 7, although I was semi-distracted while doing it. For the second one, I did, in fact, think of a carrot (not distracted this time). For the last one, I thought of a blue axe. I don't know why everyone thought of a hammer. Strange.

A majority? Or a plurality? Seems to me it would be very unlikely for over 50% of a sample group to answer 7. But I have no idea what article you're talking about, I'm just using some common sense.

Every time I go through this, their answers don't line up with mine around 5 or 6 times, therefore it keeps missing.

- 7
- Carrot
- Red hammer

Doh! how predictable am I?... no wonder I'm a fish at p*ker.

The psychological explanation is that categories are represented as stereotypes in our brains. When you think of the category "bird" you don't visualise a penguin... this is basically it; Carrot is a common stereotype for vegetable and red hammer is a common stereotype for tools. Which stereotype will represent each group depends agmonst others on culture and age of aquisition.
