There's absolutely no reason to bet the turn (it's a JT8 board and he's called twice, you think he might have got a piece?) and none to call the river when he bets just under half his stack.

If he had 10K, you could push, though.

Do you always make continuation bets? This is a terrible place for a continuation bet. You got two callers and a board that is likely to hit anything they are likely to be calling with.

A continuation bet is like any other bluff. To work, your opponent must not have much and it must appear plausible that you do have something.

Check behind on the flop and hope to hit one of your 4 nut outs or 6 questionable outs.

I would try to make a hand here, but I wouldn't try to bluff this pot. You probably had the best hand preflop, but so what.

He got one loose caller and has 2 overs plus a straight draw on the flop for 8+6 outs.

A gutshot straight draw is 4 outs. I believe my count is correct.

A double gutter is 8, though. I missed it, too.

Why do people always miss double gutters

Thanks again y'all!!!

And Betgo, it was heads up and yes, more often than not, I do make the continuation bet, ESPECIALLY condsidering what I'd seen with this player. I do however, like the check-raise as well, but use it less often.

It was a "scary" flop and his check-call, twice really thru me for a loop, considering the previous orbit of hands I'd seen him play.

I know the results don't matter, the right play is the right play regardless and taking into account how I actually played it, as others have said, I should've called and even losing the hand, I had a decent stack to work with....just taking it all in, I really felt I was beat.

I folded to the river bet, but commented in the chat window, "I only have 2 barrels, nh."

At least that prompted him to show the atrocious 68o WHIFF! He went on to finish 79th, and I "cashed" in 149th....live and learn.

I seriously appreciate the discussion, thanks again!
