why not just use default flat view?

I am on DU and it sucks

Tony and others have already mentioned throttling down the number of posts per page in flat mode, but even at 20 posts per page, the HTML for this page is only about twice as much (68kB) as the HTML for the top post in threaded mode (36kB).

But the images and so on add a lot more than that.

If you use Firefox you can turn images off entirely. With Opera, you can select a mode that shows placeholders, and then you can selectively load images if you want them.

It's still faster than threaded mode. But the reason it does that is because the software doesn't always keep track of unread posts accurately.

Not if you want the post to make sense or if you don't care about slogging through every post in the thread.

Always makes sense to me. It's really pretty easy to use. If I'm wondering what a particular post is responding to, I just click on the name.

Pretty simple.

Are they going to work on making it more user friendly?
