I would fold. These big overbets usually mean one of two things:

1. A big draw of which you will beat a certain % of the time

2. A huge hand.

They will probably have a draw more often than a huge hand, but overall....I've called these huge overbets way too often and actually been shown monster hands. I no longer discount the possibility just because someone makes a bet thats way out of line.

i'd call here. you're usually way ahead, and are only really smoked by A8, AQ, AK, and sets. incidentally, did you have a diamond?

I had no diamond.

I think he plays two pair or a set like this, hoping I have a better ace, then then i am crushed like 8.5 to 1 dog

Or he plays 2 diamonds like this, in which case i am 2:1 fav

what became clear after this is that he was willing to do these big overbets with most hands he was going to play, which took away my postflop advantage.

but i think he plays 2 diamonds like this all the time, and he plays a set or two pair different some of the time.

anyway, i think call was probably right the more i think about it.
