Why isn't a free showdown play good here?

You're never folding a better hand, and you only have 2 outs if behind. If you think you're best bet the river, if not there's no reason to put more in on the turn

---when your oponent just calls your turn raise here......typically your hand in this particular spot is far to good not to value bet the river.

---there are other spots where the free showdown play is better because you are less sure you are ahead, but you also have some folding equity/protection. in these other spots, you are less happy to get a call, and the fact that you got a call---can indicate the higher than normal likelyhood you are not so good with a hand like an underpair.

There was a strong whiff of AK in the air, which is why I checked behind. Lo and behold, he turned over AK.

I am not so bold as to imagine my hand-reading skills are this good, so I posted the hand in order to get told to bet.

Guy.

I think you played it perfectly. The check behind is fine - you miss some value against 99 and AQ (and this assumes AQ always calls).

Are we not allowed to look at the river card when deciding whether to bet? I'm sure Guy would have bet a river smaller than Q.

lots of pocket pairs that i beat

The villan capped preflop, how many PP hands are we ahead of? 99 is it, maybe 77-66. Just because alot of people overplay blind-on-blind battles doesn't mean this obstensibly passive villan is.

Most of the hands that call u here beat u. Kings, queens, Aces, Ace-King. The only hands that u will beat are medium pocket pairs (besides 88 obviously) which if this guy was passive would not be betting them into overcards most likely and probably wouldnt cap it on the flop. u might get acall from AQ but half the time he folds

Ull also even get raised frequently enough on the river to make it even worse for a value bet to be +EV

The more I play this game the more I learn you need to MERCILESSLY value bet. There are too many players calling here with K high not to meition a hand like 44.

why the turn raise? i feel like it will let him get away from a hand with very few outs and also give him the opprotunity to 3bet which i would have a tough time dealing with.
