Routine play or huge suck out?
2-4 HE at the local Indian casino. Table is loose and passive, 10-handed. I have a decent read on most of the players.
I'm in the Big Blind with Ad 3d. 8 limpers to me, including the SB. I check. Flop: Td 3h 2c (8 SB in the pot, 9 players) Checked around to MP, who bets. I put her on top pair, as she'll call with any piece of the flop but only bet with top pair or better. 2 LP callers, SB folds. I call. 1 EP calls. Turn: 2d [ Td 3h 2c ] (6 BB in the pot, 5 players) Checked around to MP, who bets. Both LPs fold. I call. EP folds. River: 3c [ 2d Td 3h 2c ] (8 BB in the pot, 2 players) I check. MP bets. I raise. MP calls. She shows T6o and my full house is good. I was roundly criticized at the table for my "huge suckout". The guy on my right said he thought I was a better player than that. I kinda shrugged and said that I figured it was my turn to win a hand. On the flop, I figured that I'd win the pot with any '3' or 'A' (5 outs). Putting MP on top pair (Tx), I have 5 wins out of 46 cards, so that's just over 8:1. With the backdoor flush draw, I'd call on the flop with as little as 6 or 7 SB in the pot. On the turn, I'm only a 2:1 dog, so that call is automatic. In another game, I might raise as a semi-bluff, but MP will not fold top pair here, and I don't want to chase EP out. To me, my play was fairly routine. But since I'm new to poker, what I consider routine is only correct about half the time, so I thought I'd ask for some feedback. Thanks, PP |
