It's probably a scam. I know they say keep different passwords but I'm sure there will be many folks who will fall for it. I couldn't find anything on pokerstars.com about it...

I checked it out. It's ok. It is linked from the Pokerstars news page. Right now it is an identical copy of the site that is running. I didn't see anybody else on it and I didn't log in.

it's on your1 Pokerstars client in their startup dialogue -

Unless you play for pay money, it's a worthless pile o'crapo - who cares...

for that matter, what does Pokerstars upgrade for anyways? - They've been one of the most stable clients I've seen - but I haven't seen any new features in yrs...

I did a whois lookup on PokerStars.com/net and Testpokerstars.com, and all the sites are registered to Rational Enterprises, Ltd. of Costa Rica, so it's probably legit.

Hello,

Thank you for writing about the TestPokerStars.com site.

TestPokerStars.com will be where we will be testing out new software
improvements, and we'd love you to help us out!

You can download the test program at the TestPokerStars homepage:
http://www.testpokerstars.com/index.html

Please read the terms and conditions of the site carefully, and make
special note of the following:

-The test site is for play money only.

-The test site may not always be in operation.

-While you will use your same User ID on TestPokerStars, you will need
to get a new password for use only on the test site. Please see
the "Instructions for setting up an account on the test site" link at
the bottom of the test site homepage.

-We will not be responsible for any errors that occur in the program
(it is a test site after all!) including the loss of chips for any
reason.

-The Support for the test site will be handled by a different staff,
and questions and concerns about the operation of the site should be
sent to them at support@testpokerstars.com, not to our normal Support
address. Please note that since the staff there is limited, response
time may be very slow, and you may not always receive an answer.

-Not everything that we will be testing on TestPokerStars will be
visible; some of the improvements involve such things as table
deployment and data storage. But even if you can't see it, simply
playing on the test site will help make PokerStars an even better
place to play!

-To thank you for your help, play chips earned on the test site may be
converted to play chips on PokerStars.com at a bonus conversion rate.
(The rate may vary.) To transfer play chips from TestPokerStars.com
to PokerStars.com, you can use the transfer tool
under "Requests">"Transfer Play Money To PokerStars.com..."

Thanks again for your interest in TestPokerStars!

Regards,

Claudia
PokerStars Support Team

True.

Stars will eventually release any new software updates to this test site, so you can try any new software features there first. Its only play money though.
