Default My first $100 day

just started testing the waters in 1/2. Cards have been running good. I wonder though how you all deal with the swings. I was 132 up then went through a $110 swing and finished up $150 for the day. WOW! but that swing had my emotions in complete turmoil. I would imagine doing coke couldn't be as satisfying as coming back. Just had to toot my own horn since no one in the family really understands the victory. This is really a credit to all that I have learned here so congratulate yourselves for another sucess!

Congratulations on your achievement.

As to dealing with the swings, I grit my teeth, try to stay calm and, if I believe it's affecting my game negatively, stop playing.

Personally I find that the tendency I have to fight when suffering a downswing is not a drift towards loose-aggressive tilting but becoming weak-tight and timid.

As you progress, you will hopefully find the swings easier to deal with. Firstly, you'll just get used to the constant inflows and outflows of chips. Secondly, if you have ground out an overall profit of 500 or 1,000BB, it is much easier to put losing 50 or 100BB in perspective: you're hopefully not losing a massive chunk of your bankroll and you can face it with the equanimity and self-confidence that comes from a long-run winning record. Notwithstanding this, whether you win big or lose big, it's sensible to put time into analysing your own play and looking for strengths and weaknesses.

You are right - Read this study about Gambling and the Brain

“This is also the first demonstration that a monetary reward in a gambling-like experiment produces brain activation very similar to that observed in a cocaine addict receiving an infusion of cocaine.” In other words, he says the results may give credence to the theory that gambling behavior may be similar to drug addiction.

Why do you think I took up poker in the first place?

I needed to find a "high" that doesn't show up on a blood test.

Fantastic result, there's something rather special about the first $100 win.

As to dealing with swings at a new limit, I don't!
If I feel myself thinking "I'd really hate to lose this back today" when I'm at a new limit, I either stop for the day or move back to my old limit.
That way I help to build my confidence at the new level, and gradually you build a tolerance until you are comfortable.

Keep up the good work, and well done.

Lori

congratulations on the win! Playing this game well and getting the rewards is a great feelong and a great acomplishment.
The good news is that, at least in my opinion the 2/4 games on Party are similar, if not easier than the 1/2.
But don't rush, do it right and it will come to you.
