I'm not particularly bothered about moneying, I try to shoot for top 3 every time I play. Once I got to 60k, the best hand I had until bout 35 left was KT after an allin, so I wasn't getting much to go with. Bit gutted I ended up losing 120k pot with queens to 22, with a 2 on the river.

I readily admit I have a lot to learn about NL though, I haven't won anywhere near as many NL to PL/Limit tournaments. More than willing to learn though.

EDIT: When I get the hand histories, I'll post some of the hands/situations I passed up.

You asked for a critique so here it is:

I hate both plays.

What point of the tournament are you in for Hand#1?

If you feel you need to double up there, than your push is fine.

Hand#2

I think you can find a much better situation to get your money in versus a short BB, you've got plenty of chips and can wait for such a move.

Peace,

I put myself in his position, I felt he was going to fold a lot of hands here being on the bubble. I was astonished when I saw what he called with and I'd certainly think twice about touching his blind again.

Hand 1 he had AK and I turned the straight to double up. Hand 2, he called me with J8 and again I sucked out my making a straight.

Hey Tosh,

In my view, both these hands are all in or fold spots. I would fold both. Hand one is a much tougher decision for me. Here is my reasoning.

Hand 1:
At this point in the tourny, you may feel antsy with the blinds approaching, and a fairly short stack--however you can pay for another two or so rotations before you have to really panic. If you had slightly better position, this would turn into a push. I just feel that you have so many people acting after you with nice, comfortable stacks, that this is not where I'd like to get my chips in. I'd feel much better pushing K7o from the button than pushing in this spot.

I know your thinking is that you want to double up or (preferably) steal the blinds, and I think this hand is right on the borderline. I'd probably wait for a hand in better position.

Hand 2:
This is a mistake. I don't like this play at all. The range of hands your opponent is calling with in this spot are huge. Raises like this get the least respect, especially from small stacks in the BB. His stack is too big to justify this play. If he has 2x-3x the BB, push automatically. However, he is a whopping 6x the BB and has nearly half your stack. I don't like the raise, and I like the call from the BB.

Hand one, close, could really go either way. Hand two, not close. Gluck Tosh.
