Very interesting and entertaining read.
How did Joe Cassidy react when you showed your hand?
How did this hand effect the rest of the session?

[/ QUOTE ]

I want to ask the same questions.

He stood up and sort of groaned out of shock and was clearly pissed and said something along the lines of "I learned something". Afterward we got into a discussion about the hand and he was attempting to convince me I should have folded the turn when a hot young girl he knew came over to him and obviously that ended the poker discussion.

As for the rest of the session, I didn't stay much longer and we didn't play any more meaningful hands before I left.

I've talked about this in some other posts, but I might as well do it again. I think one of the worst things you can do in limit holdem is make a big hand, play it tricky or slowplay it in some way so that you plant a seed of doubt in your opponent, and then make a tough fold later. Cassidy makes his hand, acts all tricky to make you thin that he is trying to get away something, and then makes the big laydown. Not a good idea.

I also agree that Joe played this hand very poorly on the river.

It's certainly monstrous enough not to lay it down.

Given that theres very little chance he has a pocket pair 77 or smaller, making a pair doesn't improve your hand much. If you read him weak enough that you can call with a pair you should just raise his river bet regardless of the final card (or 3bet the turn and follow through, or something).

anyway your best play on the hand was showing him he was duped. this was one of the rare instances where that was a very valuable play.

Could you elaborate? I think I'd toss my hand in the muck with a little extra force and mutter "Jesus, can you see my cards?"

if i completely outplayed a WCP, you can bet im showing him, and loving every second of it.

its like dunking on shaq at the local gym. :P

except here, its likely to have good results the rest of the night.

You jump over Shaq, and dunk when he is still facing the other way. When he turns around and asks if it went in, you say "Sorry Shaq, I don't remember."

"Afterward we got into a discussion about the hand"
