Are we an insurance company?

No. The Card Player Healthcare Savings Card provides access to a pre-negotiated discount with your provider. We are simply a health care discount program that utilizes the finest preferred providers in the country. No! You don’t have to be part of a group to become a member. There are no waiting periods, no deductibles, no maximums, no limit to the number of visits and preexisting conditions are included immediately, there are no forms to be completed. You pay for only the services you need at a significant discount!

It's nice of them to not tell you your discount until after you pay them.

Given that these ARE poker players we are talking about, I think the premiums are going to be pretty high.

A discount plan is not health insurance.

It's beyond me why people don't just get one of Oxford or Aetna's individual plans. I've got one of Aetna's better PPO plans and pay $170 / month, and I'm quite satisfied.

ehealthinsurance.com

i'm paying $150/month for full coverage (20% copay) and basic dental. i could go down to $100/month if i went to a lower plan w/$300 deductible (then 30% copay) and no dental.

Pardon me for being a health insurance nit but if it's a percentage it isn't a copay it's a coinsurance. A copay is going to be the same every time, like $10 per doctor visit or $50 for the ER or $250 to insert a penis pump.

A coinsurance is going to be a percentage of the total charge (or more accurately the reduced rate negotiated by the insurnace company). The insurance company pays 80%, you pay 20% or something like that. And, of course, this is after the deductible.

I pay $90/mo for catastrophic coverage (found on ehealthinsurance.com as well). I have a $1500 yearly deductable, after which I am responsible for nothing.

I'm pretty healthy and don't go to the doctor that often and don't need prescriptions. If I do get sick, the worst case scenerio, I pay $2,600/yr, which averages to a little over $215/mo. Of course, I need to have the cash available to pay for any doctor visits or medication I need, but that's kept in savings.

Coinsurance is bad. With a 20% coinsurance, if you get a $100k medical bill, you owe $20k.

If you're young and healthy this is probably a good way to go.

Once you get to say 35-40 I suspect an HMO or PPO would end up being cheaper.
