Default Did I make the right call?

I was hoping to get some opinions on a hand that came up tonight in a party $33 multi-table tourney. It started with 1240 people and was down to 63.

It is not a bad beat story, I just want to know if you think i made the right call, In my head i would do it everytime under the same circumstances. Basically, was it worth possibly taking a coin flip for everything at this point in the tourney, even with good odds?

Ive got about 30K, which is a decent amount over the average, but not far from the chip leader at 50K. Blinds were at 750/1500.

The hand is folded to me in big blind and I find AK offsuit, I raise the BB a standard 4500 (3x BB) into a 2250 pot.

The BB has almost the exact same stack as me and just sat down. Well, he thinks a few seconds and all ins me, making around 37K in the pot. I thought for a second and figured he definitly didnt have a monster, reraising all in instead of les. I guessed he might have a pair about half the time which makes it basically a coinflip, and I figured there was also a very good chance he had KQ, AJ, A10, QJ, etc (and thought i was making a move and I would lay down the hand)... and in that case I was a good favorite.

If I won the pot I would be chip leader with 60k and thought I would win this around 2/3's of the time. The pot odds were around 1.5 to 1 which seemed to good to pass up( considering I could easly be a 2 to 1 favorite). So I made the call for my last 25K and he turned over Q9 offsuit! My happiness dissapeared quickly when he flops a Q and 9, giving me basically no hope and I'm out in 63rd place. Even If I had AA or KK, still woulda been out against his 2 pair. I know that I didnt have him dominated, but I dont feel bad about gambling with AK when I thought I had the best of it. Should folding be a realisic option to anyone here?

I really feel if I won that hand I would have been a good favorite to atleast finish top 5, and maybe take Ist for 8K.

I know that I took a gamble and lost.. which I can't say I regret... should I?

what would you do?

peace

Okay it is a bad beat story, but I just posted it to make sure I made the right move. Im guessing a few players might lay it down, see if there is any argument for folding. I'm confident I made the right call but still interested in other opinions.
