Stupid little hand
Is this a trick of a great player or just a complete spew. This type of move on the turn was essentially why I called the flop. Figured two pair/trip outs were good and if the straight hits, I can bluff it. Also backdoor flush draw. Moronic?
Edit: Villain is a big winning player who can definitely fold a hand. And is aggressive on the flop 3 way so doesn't need a monster to bet here. But he may have a monster. And he may have a draw. Party Poker (6 max, 6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: TWP is BB with 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 3 folds, TWP checks. Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) Sb bets 7, TWP calls (??), Button folds. Turn: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) SB bets 25, TWP raises to 75...? |

Re: Stupid little hand
Wouldn't a turn flat-call and river bluff be more scary to villian?

Re: Stupid little hand
I don't like it. There's a lot of lines you can take here, but I'm not a big fan of this one.

Re: Stupid little hand
Would you like to explain what you don't like about this one and perhaps why one of the many other lines is better? Thanks.

Re: Stupid little hand
Bluffing straight cards is tough because nobody ever believes you have them. I'd much rather have a straight draw and bluff a flush card because it seems like everybody is afraid of flushes these days (even runner runner ones).
You might want to edit the preflop action because, as it reads, you got a walk here so I can only assume the rest of the hand occurred only in your mind. |

Re: Stupid little hand
Even when there are four to a straight on the board? When it's a two card straight, I completely agree with you. And yeah, obviously the two guys who play the flop called preflop. Nit.

Re: Stupid little hand
When its 4 to an open-ender, its easier than when its a gutshot. I don't believe nobody will ever fold to such a bet on such a board, just that its less likely than when you chase a straight and can use flush cards to bluff. You've stated villain is a big winner in the game so I'll take that to mean you have a large number of hands with him and can also consider what he thinks of you. If he knows you to bluff scary boards, that lowers the chance of him folding even more. If he thinks you're a rock, your success with the move goes way up (duh). I'm not saying you played this poorly, just pointing out some issues involved in making the play. Obviously, if your estimation of his hand range and what he'll need to play on says this is a good play, by all means make it.

Off-topic: Are there any plans for another sweating session any time soon?

Re: Stupid little hand
Good post. But it was 4 to an OESD (any 6) not a gutshot on the flop. And I know he is a winner from seeing him with big stacks and datamining but I usually try not to sit with him (funny that) so we have only played a few sessions together. So I dont think he really knows me. (From a later hand, I can tell he doesn't think I'm a rock. )

Re: Stupid little hand
By 'gutshot', I meant that you need exactly a 6 to make a straight. When the 4 board cards are consecutive (despite the order they come in), people are more likely to believe you have one end or the other.
How many datamined hands did you have? I gave up on datamining when I realized that the stats didn't tell me nearly enough compared to seeing them actually play a few hands. |
