It does look fishy. Usually sellers will have the item cheap but have a huge shipping rate so they don't have to pay ebay fees. The ad says free shipping but i would emai him first.

Look at all his other auctions. He has prices for everything marked and says not to bid until you contact him. He is selling stuff directly so as to avoid fees, as others have said before.

Well I emailed him about a new Garmin 396 gps unit that he has listed for $500, it retails for $2500 (first red flag). He responded within 1 minute with this email:

[ QUOTE ]
HI
The Garmin 396 is brand new ,all accessories included and also an international warranty. The invoice will come at the same time with the package.
My price is the best you could get: 500$/unit, including the
shipping and insurance taxes. We will pay them because the package
will be delivered from Europe.
As delivery service we use UPS 2 days air service or overnight (with insurance and
15 days return policy), because it's the faster also free. And if you will have
a quick payment, we must also have a quick delivery. So that's why we
use as a payment method Western Union money transfer, the fastest and
also very secure way of sending money.
So, if you agree with my terms I'm sure that we can close the deal as soon as possible.
Waiting your quick answer right now,
BEST REGARDS

Then I responded by asking how come the price was so low and he responded with this, in about 5 minutes

[ QUOTE ]
The price is low because it is a promotional one for my company that i just opened here in europe. If you will buy it directly from me in the next 24 hours you will get promotional a free shipping. Is not necesary to bid .
no PayPal because the withdraw limit is 500USD per week. I cant use paypal because it said im over my limitand
i dont want to sound stupid but i dont understand why i cant use
paypal they only gave me a 2000.oo dollar limit for mounth my credit card has way more
than that on it. I usually pay the products with cash money.
More, I don't trust paypal payments anymore i got scamed last week or any
other onlne auctions go to this web address and read the
reviewes:http://paypalsucks.com/
Western Union services are more secure that paypal or any other online
services.
No particulary reasons for western union but i will receive the funds
more easy, anyway you can ask for reference at :
admin@ebaysecurity.info this man work for ebay and bought from me 5 units last week
Don't forget to tell him my email adress .
Regards,

[/ QUOTE ]

Then I asked about using an escrow service
[ QUOTE ]
About escrow, what can I say I used them in the past and I was very
disappointed because these systems blocked my money for two weeks and
when you try to develop a business, time is everything!
Western Union is the fastest way to conclude a payment!

It's more than just trying to avoid eBay fees, there's no way this is legit.

Yea, E-Bay straight up says don't use Western Union because you can't prove anything like you can on PayPal. First rule of E-Bay. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
