If you're not willing to step down, even 500 is not big enough.

This is pretty much the crux of it. If you're just taking a shot and are willing to step back down if you start off on a bad foot, then 400 or 500 BB's is a fine place to step up to the 15 game. If you do not want to have to step down at any point, then you need more. Just for a point of reference, I like to keep 1,000 BB's online within easy access to ensure I don't have to step down.

I think 1,000 BBs is about right, I think 600 is prolly enough but for most people it will help them a lot mentally to be way over rolled.

wow. 1000 BB? I guess I have been lucky so far with my 300 BB roll. Luckily for me, I am not a pro (yet) [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img], and so I had better keep the job for a while longer.

Pro or not, big downswings are the norm in that game. Some of the most solid players in that game on these boards go thru 200-250 downswings once every other month or so. 300 BB's is DEFINITELY not a full bankroll for that game, whether you're a recreational player or not.

30K would be way too much for me to feel comfortable keeping online, at least until I had won many times that.

I'd rather keep it somewhere a little more secure and then just take a few days off if I took a hit and needed to reload.

I don't play nearly as much poker as others on here. But they definitely help me out way more than poker. In ways that don't involve money.
