I think we are pretty much splitting hairs here.

Also, I dont care WHAT his poker bankroll is at all; just his net worth. In fact im not sure Hellmuth REALLY cares about poker PLAY as a moneymaker anymore. If he can roll out a DVD, a book, and skim 1% of the UB rake and combine that with his wifes high salary why would he really care about poker winnings??

That was the point of the post in the first place: that people on this board continually deride him and in this case call him "stupid" when he really is outperforming 99% of the players as a money maker...and doing so in a fairly low risk fasion.

The only poker player with any sort of television exposure that I would classify as dumb would be Ellix Powers. Hellmuth is not dumb....he's just gone so far down an egotistical hole that he might not even be better than average in the big-buyin tournament fields.

Remember that Phil chopped the Tournament of Champions with Annie Duke. ($1,000,000)

His house in Palo Alto has to be worth $2m at a minimum. That's community property though so I'm not sure it counts. It also could have a decent mortgage, but assuming he purchased prior to the big real estate boom, I'm sure he's way above water on it. It's a nice house in the very best section of a rich town.

Hellmuth is definitely an enigma. His poker reasoning often appears to be flawed based on his articles for magazines. The limit section of his book is just plain maniac. I've heard tons of rumors about his bad play in side games.

On the other hand, the only reliable first hand account I have of him playing in side games, he took a brutal beat. He also does do well in many tournaments. I've never heard rumors of him being a deadbeat to backers, unlike many other big name tourny stars. Who the hell knows. Probably his childish attitude garners much more gossip than is warranted. At the very least he is most likely an above average tourny player.

Of course he is an above average tournament player. He is one of the greatest tournament players of all time, up there with Chan and Brunson.

I have no clue how much anyone has in the bank. I don't think Hellmuth is one of the ones asking for backers at every tournament. But I wouldn't be surprised if he blew off a high % of his income in B&M and internet cash games.

Bottom line is it's only guessing, right?

I've never heard rumors of him being a deadbeat to backers,

From what I have heard he himself is a fairly prominent backer from Bonetti to Vahedi and has made money consistently from backing players.

Well considering that hellmuth has made lifetime in tourneys just under $4Mil spread over the last 15 years (for the benifit of the doubt we will assume he started playing the tourneys the year he won the WSOP), and given the average year on the circuit is costing about $200 - $300k these days (and we all know he's too good to be seen in a satelite), and given he's a losing cash game player (as any proffessional from Colma could verify), then take into account the IRS and the cost of raising a family in the Bay Area, it's not very hard at all to imagine he may not have $1M in the bank.

Other than you need to take zillions from book sales, Dvd's and his very strong relationship from UB which gives him equity in a successfull online casino....Oh and his wife just happens to be a practicing doctor in one of the welthiest areas in the world.....now its kinda hard to believe he isnt worth several million dollars.
