Is Calling Someone Their Last Name Disrespectful?

I used to call a girl by her last name, now I date her and I use her first name. This happened the moment we started dating btw. While the last name isn't disrespectful, there are more respectful ways to refer to someone.

I'm almost positive there were more people who knew me by my last name than my first name in high school. It doesn't really bother me since I'm used to it.

For the most part, I use first names for people that I have known for a long time, and last names for people that I met more recently.

When I was in high school, my friends from grade school were always called by their first name. 99% of the friends I met in high school, I referred to them by their last name.

it is fine for friends. it is disrespectful to refer to a stranger or somebody unfamiliar by only thier surname with a proper prefix
