Default big problems

Hey guys, I've been an avid poker player for nearly a year now, and among my friends I am a respected player who is always a contender. However lately I have had a problem. I have been coming in 2nd or 3rd in practically every game I play, but I cannot seem to win. I am inept at heads up poker. I will get dealt rags, call my blinds, then have to fold when I have nothing. Could someone offer me detailed advice of how to play good heads up poker? That is all that separates me from being a dominant player. Part of the problem is that I am a very conservative player and I rarely bluff. So this hurts me when I get to heads up. Oftentimes I know that the person betting has nothing, but I have nothing as well and so I can't call. Any advice you guys could give would be very helpful.
