My list looks similar to yours, as well as

Pearl Jam - Ten
Tool - Lateralus/Aenima
Weezer - Pinkerton
The Shins - CTN or OIW, depending on mood
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Elliott Smith - XO
The New Pornographers - Electric Version
R.E.M. - Out of Time
Spiritualized - Let it Come Down

[/ QUOTE ]

How the hell is Belle & Sebastian considered rock?

Alright, this is "one of those threads", but I'll butt in and give you my version. Warning you wankers, there will be some "shitty" mainstream rock. Whatever, suck it bitches.

#1-Led Zeppelin-How the West Was Won
Rock 'n' roll would be in a completely different place today wihout them.

Fantastic live album, they were ON. Exciting improv/jams/medleys/covers.

All others unordered

-Stone Temple Pilots-Purple

-White Stripes-Elephant, probably. I like De Stijl better though, only because of the old blues cover.

-The Black Crowes-Shake Your Moneymaker
I love this album. Nothing groundbreaking or innovative, sorry.

-Rage Against The Machine-Rage Against The Machine
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW, Tom Morello is great, Tom Morello is good.
Killer riffs.

-Green Day-Dookie

-Sublime-Sublime
Dead on arrival. 40 oz. to Freedom is good too, but this one has more popular appeal.

-Red Hot Chili Peppers-Both Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication

-John Paul Jones-Zooma
Here's my obscure pick for you indielovinlookatmenamedropthisbandnooneknowsaboutb utthisisdefinitelythebestalbumever ootards.

I have too agree here. Belle and Seb are great, (especially "If your...") but rock?

Same for both Shins albums and all Elliot Smith, although I'm inclined to say that these two last mentions is better than anything a pure rock list can come up with (slightly overstated, but they are THAT good). Madtown, about your Shins discussion, I totally agree. IMO "Chutes.." is just much more exiting and varied, musically and lyrically.

Other than that I'm surprised so few has mentioned The Bends, in this list it really should be way ahead of Kid A. I'm also pretty sure Lateralus, Siamese Dream, RATM and Nevermind should be in there.

Noone feels The Downward Spiral by NiN deserves a mention?
Anyone heard of a Norwegian band called Motorpsycho?

Man you're super bitter at the turn from Alt-Country. It's ok man, Uncle Tupelo was a great band too.

Wrong. I like Summerteeth and A Ghost is Born, which aren't alt-country at all.

In addition to a lot of albums already mentioned ("Superunknown" and "Purple" come to mind), Faith No More's "The Real Thing" deserves a place in my top ten.

I can't fathom why you don't like YHF. It's definitely one of the best albums in the last 5 years. That's weird.
