Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
Opponent in this hand is a young kid, new to the table. He seems to play pretty straighforwardly. He also seems to be very well-versed in poker lingo and style. Not a bad player, but definitely one who fancies himself quite the poker player. He has about $2500. I have him covered.
I open for $60 w/ 88. He calls. Everyone else folds. $150 in the pot. Flop is 368, all clubs. I bet about $120, he raises to about $420. Your move? |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
He most likely has Ace of clubs. Call the flop.
If a club does not hit on the turn raise $1000. If he goes all in call him. If a club hits, check and fold. CK |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
Push?
He could have the naked A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] or simply an overpair with a club. If he actually has something like the nut flush, one would think he would wait to the turn to pop it. But if you're wrong, you still have a full house draw. I can only guess your other intention is to call and wait for a non-club and then push (or simply check if the board pairs), but you're in a bad spot with bad position if a club appears. Garland |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
gotta tough decision to make D. however, at those stack sizes, you can punt to the turn. call and deploy countermeasures.
was he the kind of guy that if the boat hit on the turn you could pull the ol' instapanic stack push? i've always been fond of that one. matt |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
my big questions are will he pay you off if the board pairs and how likely is he to have a big club (i.e. call with a hand like AcQh)? a big club seems somewhat less likely than usual, particularly if the guy has a clue (i.e. he won't call a raise with AQ or something)

Call the flop bet and feel out the rest of the hand.

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
Diablo,
You should post more NL hands like this. Seems like these kind of decisions distinguish between a decent player and a great player. I think you have to call the flop. This seems like the best option whether you're ahead or behind, unless you somehow knew he was drawing to a lone club. As for what to do on the turn, well I, well, hmm. I'm lost. I like betting out if you fill up, and check calling a reasonable bet if a club falls. But what the hell do you do with the other 31 cards in the deck? Maybe I'll figure out this whole big bet business someday. Justin A |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
He have overpair with flush draw? I'm guessing perhaps JJ with a club. I mean its like 23-1(?) that he has a flush already. Its a scary flop for anyone without a club and he just may figure you would drop your hand with that raise.
Tough call and with those deep stacks I could only see myself pushing. Only way he calls is if he has the nuts, or aces with nut flush draw. I don't like to see another card. |

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
The problem with pushing on the flop is that he makes no more money from someone he's ahead of, but loses it all to a flush. Calling on the flop allows him to make more money when he's ahead, and maybe lose less when behind.

Re: Commerce 10-20 NL 88 hand
You went to Commerce without telling me you were going? Fucker. I hope you got busted on this hand (I would have called the flop as Flynn recommends, BTW).
