I'm surprised at how many people are calling.

At the cash game, there's no reason to put all my money in the pot with everyone. I would prefer to take my time and earn my money slowly but surely.

At the first day of the WSOP, knowing my skill level and the skill level of the semi-pro's and pro's that I am better off calling in hopes of getting a crazy amount of chips so I can play tight and easy for as long as possible.

At the final's table of the WSOP it is a no brainer. You have to fold. With everyone all-in, the worst that can happen is that 1-2 people win/split the pot and you're guaranted third place. And third place is a whole ton of money. I'd rather be the small stack at a table with only 3 people than go bust and finish in 9th cause someone got 2 pair of some random small cards.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you fold this is a cash game you suck at cash games. If you think there is any way in hell that your EV is higher "trying to slowly make your money" your wrong again, and by a [censored] HUGE margin.

In a cash game or on the first day of WSOP, folding this hand is wrong, and it really is that simple. I didnt really give much thought to the final table question, but i suppose that it would be correct to fold based on the fact that you're guarenteed second unless the pot is somehow split.

I don't get how someone can vote FOLD for cash games. You should call in cash games as long as the move is +ev.

What if (for some reason) you believe that 2 players have AK and AQ, and that everyone else has a pocket pair?

[/ QUOTE ]
That is a very strange thing to believe, but AA would still win about 14.2%, about 3% more than par, according to PokerStove. The players with pairs would expect to win about 12.7%. The players with AK and AQ would win about 4.8%. AQ wins a bit more than AK, 5.0% rather than 4.6%, because it makes more straights.

Cash game: How can you not call?

Early WSOP: This is the toughest question. I would probably lay it down. Sure you're getting 9-1 on about 3-7. Comes down to how much edge you'll give up to stay alive.

Late WSOP: Insta-fold, unless of course 1st place pays more than 3 times second place.

haha, funny enough, a similar thing happened to me on party not a minute after I posted this. 30 + 3 three table nl. Thought about it for a while and called 3 other all-ins with aces. Turns out I was up against AJo, KK, and QQ. Guy with kings hit a set to bust me out.

Default I don\'t see an argument for a call at the final table

Barring a freak accident, a fold takes you from essentially 10th place to 2nd place (or an even share of all the prizes from 1-10 to a 90/10 split between 2nd and 1st). Also barring a split, you have somewhere in the neighborhood of a 50/50 or less of coming in first if you play.

The way I see it is that 90% of us here should call the all in preflop b/c we don't have the same postflop skills as the pros playing the ME. When you're lacking in postflop, you've really got to push it preflop.

That's not to say our pf skills are bad, they're just not as good *in general*

Cash game is an easy call. Shouldn't have to think about it at all, it's obviously +EV.

I make the call during the first day of the WSOP easily as well. You need chips, and I'll take a 30% shot to have a stack that will put me among the leaders so long as I don't bomb out.

I fold easily during the final table. In two years, the time I will be able to play, the decision will probably make me a guarenteed two or three million. I'm not taking any chance to lose it. And there's a good chance I'll be down to at least four or three people for the bracelet. And while one will have a monster stack, the others shouldn't be too far ahead of me, only having picked up some side pots.

I didn't really have to think too hard about any of them, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
