ready to move up
after trying three times and reading ssh four times i finally graduated out of 50/1. it took about 10,000 hands and i did hit a 100 bet downswing which was tough. it feels good to finally be a winning limit player. i also want to say that i think limit is way harder than no limit. my problem is moving up to 1/2. ive read about the 1/2 rockgarden and it seems to have more 6max tables than full tables. i dont have much experience with 6max limit tables. also there isnt that much reading material on shorthanded play. i feel more comfortable playing full tables. should i skip 1/2 and go to 2/4? i was think of grinding 50/1 until i hit $1200. i am currently sitting at $790. what should i do? also can anyone tell me anything about the 2/4 game. is it tough or soft? any words will help.

Re: ready to move up
The 2/4 game is really soft, more than the 1/2. I think yuou should go to 1/2 though for sure. The things I learned in that game were invaluable. I was a much better player because of it. Also going straight to 2/4 is going to make a 100BB downslide feel a lot worse.

Re: ready to move up
Play 1/2. If you can't beat it, you have major problems with your game that need to be addressed.

Re: ready to move up
Another moving up tip...
If the the jump in money scares you a little bit, take in a couple sessions at the B&M. I'm assuming you'd play at least 2/4 or 3/6 there. So when you get back to your computer, you can probably splash around $2 and $4 bets much more comfortably. It helped me after my first move to 2/4 hit a 125BB downswing. |

Re: ready to move up
I jumped straight over 1/2 and it worked really fine. But remember, you can get those 100bb downswings there too.

Re: ready to move up
I think you should play at least 10,000 hands at a limit, and probably a bunch more. So the fact that it "took" you 10,000 hands to me doesn't mean much. That said, I can't imagine wanting to jump to 2/4 after a 100BB downswing at .5/1 with <$800 in my roll.

Re: ready to move up
the OP did say he would wait to build an appropriate roll for 2/4 if he jumped right there.

Re: ready to move up
I think that you should definitely play 1/2 (6-max). It's an incredibly soft game, I was able to beat it for 3.65 BB/100 easily over 25,000 hands. Read some posts in the HUSH section, there are many that compare full table play to short handed play.

Re: ready to move up
Play the 1/2 6 max game. Its one of the softest games around and despite the fact that its shorthanded you will learn much from it that you can apply to your full ring game.

Re: ready to move up
thank you for all the replys. i want to play 1/2 6max game but i just dont know what hands to start with. i just feel more comfortable playing a full table. is there a huge difference between the 50/1 and 2/4? i have played 2/4 and 3/6 in a casino and i wouldnt go crazy if i hit a 100 bet downswing.
