Right, I only play NL, so Justin would know better about the rake for limit, which sounds pretty crazy if you ask me. I believe the other Detroit casino to offer poker has a similar structure for NL games and Windsor does too. However, the games are juicy with a lot of loose players that will pay off big hands so you can more than make up for the time charge. The only thing that sucks is the max buy-ins. Makes it difficult to play deep stack until you bust someone. I may try limit, but I don't know if I want to try it at such a disadvantage, however, Justin is talking me into it.

No at Foxwoods they manage to get hundreds of people to play the worst structure NLH game I've ever seen in my life.

$1-$2 Blinds
$100 Maximum buy-in
$5 per player time charge per half hour.

So the house takes one full buy-in off of the table every hour!

I agree that Foxwoods' baby NL rake is awful, but I don't see that $6 per half in a $50-200 buyin game is any better. A little better in buyin terms, maybe, but you have more rake to beat. Granted, I typically buy in short anyway when I play NLHE, so I'm not too interested in how it compares to the max buyin.

I don't know that "standard" exists, but for comparison Atlantic City's (or at least the Borgata's) 10% to $4 in the small NL games seems pretty typical.

Borgata actually experimented when they first started spreading NL. It was 10% to $4, then they switched to $5 per half time charge then went back to 10% to $4 rake. I think that the rake is fair. The time isn't that bad (that was NYC club standard) But the max buy ins in both cases are $250 to $500 depending on where. The $5 time charge only becomes insane with a $100 max buy. If the same group plays for a few hours all of the money disappears.

For low-limit rake games I think 10% to $4 is fair (AC standard up to 6-12, 10-20 and up is time). $6 max is definitely a lot.

Perhaps this will really get your shorts in a knot. I recently played five hours of 10/20 Holdem at Motor City. I asked twice if the game was a "bad beat" game. Everyone said it was a bad beat game. In five hours I never saw a single dollar taken out for the bad beat. The game was raked 10% to max. $6.00. That occurred within the last ten days.

The list may be from phone ins, who have an hour to get there.

Now you've lost me. The tables are shorthanded but there is a list?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, if they have phone-ins waiting on the list, they wont break any of the tables. For example, if they have three 6-handed games with a few phone-ins, they will hesitate to break the third game because of the phone-ins. Or for example, if they have 5 total seats open, 6 players on the third game, and a few call-ins, they wont break the table. If the players ask to break the table, they sometimes say no, because of the call-ins.
If they have two tables, with two seats open on the main game and 4 players on the short and a few on the list, they let the short game go-on until one of the call-ins comes in. If the players ask to break, they say "Lets give the call-ins another 1/2 hour, " before we break the game.

Another thing they do is use a 7-stud table for a hold'em game. Now when you lose a player or two the game is short.
I hate playing hold 'em on an 8 player max table with their rake.

With their rake, I would prefer a 12 handed game.

I haven't seen the stud tables opened the last 5 times I've been there. I was there last weekend and all the tables were open except for those

Paying $16/hour fulltime for a year is a "rake" of over $33,000/year. Even if you're a damn good player playing w/ some of the worst that's a HUGE chunk being taken out of your pocket. With online play it's tough to justify driving down to MC unless I just need to get out. I'd rather pay a smaller rake and also get 25-30% of my rake back.
