Default Question on Deck set up

While waiting for my seat at my local card room I noticed the floor going through a dozen box's of cards in search for 2 missing cards. Apparently they had found 2 extra cards at one of the tables a little earlier. They could not figure out where they came from as the other decks were complete. Now I wound up sitting at a table that was being opend so I got to see that all the cards were there. What my question is had I joined a game in progress would it have been out of line to ask to have the deck reset up? I have never done this and have no intentions of doing it in the future but i think this would be a case for it. I would appreciate your thougths

All dealers count the deck at least once per orbit.

well if they are counted how the heck does 2 of the same cards find its way into a live hand? The reason for the question is because they couldnt figure out where the cards came from and i was just a little bit nervous about it. I have only been playing in a B&M for 2 years and this was the first time i have witnessed this

This happens all the time. Generally they don't let palyers see them put the decks together. Extra cards can get in the deck eitehr from doing a bad job putting the cards together or form palyers asking for set ups. EVeytime a player asks for a set up they run the risk of extra cards being introduced. When the dealer gets teh cards they will spread it before they put it in play. When a player asks for a deck change the delaer will change decks an everything is ususlaly fine, but if they left a card in the well form the old deck it is now mixed with the deck the take out of play. Nothing bad comes from this generally, but when I was delaing about once every 6 months I would encoutner a deck wtih the wrong number of cards; and no I never let the players know there was something wrong with the deck.

Every place I've played live poker (a pretty small sample) alternates red backs and blue backs on deck changes (every hand if shuffling machines are used). This should minimize the chance that a card from the old deck gets mixed in. Is this not done everywhere? If not, Why not?

I know where I play, the card shufflers also count the cards each time to make sure they are all there... Of course you could have five eights and only three aces, but it is a decent safeguard at least.

One of my pet peeves is when dealers wash/shuffle the cards after every hand, only to put them in an auto-shuffler.

Wastes a good 30 seconds per hand which really adds up over a session.

I've always wanted to say something but never have been drunk enough to do it. heh.

Nobody has actually answered your original question.. Yes, I think you would be out of line. The cards are counted regularly by the dealer and checked and switched at regular intervals. I think to ask for the cards to be reset when you sat down would really piss off the dealer and the other players.
