North Carolina Tribal Expansion Met With Opposition
23 June 2005

RALEIGH, North Carolina – As reported by the Asheville Citizen-Times: "Gambling opponents are mounting opposition to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians' request to bring Las Vegas-style gaming to Harrah's Cherokee Casino.

"This move comes as the Eastern Band met Wednesday with representatives from Gov. Mike Easley's office for the second time this year. The tribe answered questions about how its request to have live table games such as poker, blackjack and other offerings is consistent with federal and state law and relevant court decisions.

"…Such activity prompted concerns from the N.C. Family Policy Council, the state's chief opponent on gaming issues.

"…The Eastern Band says bringing live table gaming to Harrah's Cherokee could create as many as 430 additional jobs with an increased payroll of $15.2 million…"

I was up there a couple of weeks ago and it appears a definite no go. The place they were going to put the room has already been filled by more slot machines.

North Carolina is a bunch of dopey prudes when it comes to these things, as I learned first-hand while living in Charlotte.

The state is basically broke when it comes to its highway budget, where they overspent and have drastically delayed plans, and now have backups damn near everywhere in the Charlotte area (and other cities) due to a lack of roads, and the morons refuse to install a state lottery, nevertheless help the casino which is a hole that I never went to.

The gas stations across the border in SC do big business, hell, there's even a "Lottery Store" off the Carowinds exit on 77 right after you cross the border. People in Raleigh/Durham make treks up to Virginia when the Mega Millions jackpot gets big.

It's a disaster there but the insist on sticking to "morals" and continue to insist that people will go broke and lead a life of misery if they brought the lotto in, which is hysterical in a state where a bunch of people in the boonies live in run down trailer parks.

Typical of the human waste that infests Jesusland...

They hate science, they hate freedom, and they hate the Jeffersonian (aka ONLY correct) interpretation of the First Amendment.
