Default Propaganda

When you study history at school, there is always a large section about propaganda, how it was used in WWI and WWII, examples etc. I always remember thinking how stupid people must have been to swallow the lies and half truths they were being fed. Foolishly I assumed that this wouldn't be the case anymore, because people are better educated, and less naive than they used to be, I can't belive how wrong I was. People swallow the trash fed from both sides of the political spectrum, from 'Our Boys' to 'bombed hospitals', reasons for war that change as the facts become clearer, our old reason never existed, did it?

These days I think people will always put on the blinkers, refuse to think for themselves, blindly swallow what politicans tell them as truth. We pay them to lie to us, so we can keep ourselves separated from the carnage they create, we expect it.

Rant over

Regards Mack

Welcome the world populated by humans .

I became very interested in the same psychological perspective when doing business. I found that 90% of firms just tried to be as similar to other firms in their business since what everyone did had to be smart. However the 10% who did not follow the "common truths" were much more successful.

Reagan is the most evident example. Everyone thinks he was a great president, since .... he was a great president. If the world would have a functioning unbiased world court, he would probably be convicted for mass murder.

If we were going to start prosecuting US Presidents for mass murder, Reagan would not be anywhere near the first one to go after.

Damn, you nefarious lot are taking my thread off topic, I never realised how annoying it was until now, so I'll try not to do it so much in the future.

Hi, 90%'er .

Read 10 books about Latin America in the 80s and come back. Try to figure out how many times Reagan gave support to someone he knew would kill civilians for political reasons.

....now, now, Arnfin.

Why confuse things by attempting to insert reality and facts into a situation.

I'm reminded of an old quote from a movie.....

From one newspaper man to another: "When the Legend is more palatable than the truth....print the legend".

You are in danger of instigating a holy war here by even insinuating that "Uncle Ronnie" would EVER do (or allow to have done) anything that wasn't pure lilly white good.

Remember.....Facts be dammed.....Print the Legend.

And by the way, your reaction just confirms OP's point. Your reaction is not "Was Reagan guilty of mass murder? Is there something in history I am not aware of or is OP wrong?". It is easier for you to take a lame shot at me since you then don't have to consider if your opinion is right or based on propaganda .
