Tip for Vallet Drivers?

Whenever a restaurant has a forced vallet parking, I never know how much I'm supposed to tip. Can someone help me out here?

When I valeted 90% tipped us under 5 dollars. 2 dollars was the most popular amount. This was at a card club btw.

I've only done the valet parking thing once. I tipped the guy 5 bucks. He seemed really happy and told me to have a nice night like 6 times.

To me it depends on whether they charge for the valet service. Yesterday I was at a place that cherged $7 for valet service, and it was the only parking available. That's just ridiculous.

In general, I figure valet service is worth $5. So if it's free, I'm tipping $5. Otherwise they get the difference.

The exception is if parking in the area is really dear and it would be a lot of time, effort, or money to park on the street or in a lot. In that case, I'll probably pay valet charge + $2 or 3.
