Default Full Ring VS. 6max

So I've gone back to full ring games and I have been doing extremely well. Prior to the move I had been playing almost exclusively shorthanded for about a year. Now I have gone back to full-ring and have been crushing the game. Now Im sure i am running good at the moment, but I believe the skills I have picked up playing shorthanded have made me a much better full ring player. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Looking at it now I see many advantages over playing Full ring to 6-max. Basically I'm asking for opinions/facts on the advantages and disadvantages of each game.

PS. Will cross-post in limit small-stakes forum.

Full advantages:

You can play more tables more easily,

the swings are more manageable so mood/tilt issues aren't as common,

the decisions on average are much more routine in full games so ABC poker can be played (less marginal pair hands, less marginal steal/defend spots, more multiway hands where pot size dictates the play rather than other more thoughful and creative lines that may be more applicable in less multiway, smaller pot scenarios),

you don't have to really pay attention to the full games as you play them because of the routiness of decisions and the more "typical" play advanced by your average opponent (less aggression and they are more easily readable- for me its far easier to 8-table full games when tired form work and/or otherwise not on my A game),

and, somewhat redundatly, you VPIP less hands/100 so less effort is needed.

6-max advantages:

6-max is soooooo much more fun and I win more BBs/100.

This is exactly what I am thinking also. It just seems like A much easier game at full table. The swings at shorthanded are outrageous and I think you have a great point about the tilt factor.

I've been playing 1/2 6 max exclusively for a few months and the other day I tried out a 2/4 full table and did quite well. I felt like the skills I picked up at 6 max helped my game in a lot of ways.

Learning to play shorthanded has totally improved my post-flop play. At full-ring now I find that I have a lot better control over my opponents and I am picking off a lot more bluffs and executing more successful bluffs too.

I'm suprised nobody's mentioned that 6-max=more hands per hour. And more hands per hour = more BB per hour won. Or lost if you suck.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't necessarily think it means more BB per hour, I just think it means more variance and larger swings. You are putting far less money in per hand at a full ring game, and in general pots won are larger. I believe that it evens out.

Some of you make it sound as if shorthanded was inferior to full games, but the opposite is true both (as one poster stated) for the money and the fun. So why change back??? I utterly fail to see the point.

The 6-max games right now are probably the worst out there. They're loaded with sharks and I seriously doubt anyone can maintain a bb/100 of 2 or above. Many claim to but they are lying. If you want to find the fish, the only place to get them is at the full ring tables.

I agree with all of this and would also that that A.) 6-max is less penetrable by good players because learning shorthanded is a challenge and B.) The variance of 10/20 6-max is still much less than 15/30 full in terms of dollars, for those deciding between those two particular games.
