Default Vegas Trip/ Suggestions

Hey guys Iv'e recently started playing poker, about 3 months ago, and have become an at least once a week player at the cardrooms and daily player online. I play generally 3-6 and 4-8, however my biggest profit was shown at a 6-12 table. I have been to vegas once and had a descent time with a small profit. I am getting ready to go back and was hoping for any suggestions as to where the best games are and what casino's might comp a room for a player racking up a certain amount of hours. The casiono's I played were the Flamingo and Stardust which weren't to bad.
Also what tables should I aim for with about a $750 bankroll. I am leaning towards playing 6-12 but might not because of my low bankroll. I have shown a profit most of the times I play but understand that a downswing in cards and bad beats can lead to a dimished bankroll. Basically I would like any advice on the best casinos for 3-6 up to 6-12. Any extra advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Most of them have poker room rates. as for comped rooms I've never heard of a poker player getting comped rooms, unless they also played big blackjack.

The Mirage spreads 3-6 and 6-12. It is my favorite room. I have not found the games to be very different from one another. The Bellagio spreads 4-8 and 8-16. My suggestion would be that if you are playing well after a day or so you might want to take a shot at the 8-16. It seems to me that this is where the quality of play goes up a bit. Games become tighter and more agressive.

The Orleans has 4-8 and 6-12 also. Mandaly Bay used to spread a 4-8 game with 1/2 kill which I enjoyed.
Don't look for much in the way of comps for poker. The Mirage and Bellagio are notorious for being tight with comps.

You can find a lot of good information just by reading through the archives on this forum. In particular, read Dynasty's posts on this forum, going back about six to eight months. (Further than that, information gets out of date.)

Just about any hotel with a poker room will give you the casino rate if you make your room reservation through the poker room. They will give you a tracking card which you get initialled each time you play; they generally expect 6-8 hours of play per day. The poker-rates for Strip hotels are probably $50-$100 per day. Weekends are higher than weeknights. Bellagio is quite a bit higher than the rest, $129 weeknights, $199 weekends. But it's worth it if you appreciate nice hotels.

As for your other question, a $750 bankroll is not enough to play 6-12. It would not be especially unusual to lose $750 in three or four hours at 6-12. You should stick to 3-6. Even there, keep in mind that you might lose $750 in a day or two, even if you play pretty well. If you're only going for a weekend that's okay, as long as the $750 is what you've allocated as your gambling bankroll for the weekend (as opposed to all the money you have to your name).

I think 750 will be fine for 6-12. If his bank roll starts to get trashed he should drop down. You said it's pretty normal to lose 750 in 3-4 hours. Unless I'm on an pretty bad streak of cards I generally don't lose 15-20 BB an hour for 3-4 hours straight.....do you?

I didn't say losing that amount would be "normal"; I said it would be "not especially unusual". I had in mind something like a 10-15% probability.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I will probably try 4-8 at the Mirage then go on from there. I might buy in for 6-12 at $200 and see what happens. I can't imagine the gamnes in vegas being any looser than the 4-8 games at Commerce Casino in LA. I will definetley check out the Mirage, Bellagio and Mandaly Bay. (maybe the Orleans) Thanks again.

Last time I was there the Mirage didn't have 4-8 holdem. I think their limits were 3-6, 6-12, 10-20, and 20-40.

The Bellagio does have 4-8.

Keep in mind that in many Las Vegas casinos, such as Mandalay Bay, the 4-8 holdem game is played with $1 and $2 blinds. Bellagio may be the only place with a normal 4-8 structure (i.e. $2 and $4 blinds). Important to keep this in mind and make proper strategy adjustments for the blind structure.

On Saturday I went to my local cardroom for the first time in a while and played 10-20. After about three hours I was up 70 big bets, but it was almost as likely I could have lost the same amount.
