Default 10/20 v 5/10 (semi-whine)

I have just under 15K hands of 10/20 at Party now. I played about 10K at Absolute some time back and did well(didn't have PT at the time, but was winning at a decent rate from manual tracking).
I have 50K+ of 5/10 at Party in the last 3 months where I am fairly solid running around 1.9-2.2BB/100.
My 10/20 stats are very close to my 5/10 stats, no single stat is more than 1 point different, yet I have struggled since about my first 2K hands to stay at break even. I know for a fact I have had some really bad swings, awful luck, lots of bad beats (whine, piss, moan etc).

Playing 10/20 over the last 8K or so hands I find that I don't ever have a solid, grind it out session. I have either big wins or big losses. I either get trampled to death by the lags & fish or I crush everyone. To me this implies that I am relying on luck & not skill, though I am confident my game is superior to the average 10/20 player at Party. Playing 5/10 I have countless sessions where I grind out 5-20BB, but the monster 50-100BB win/loss sessions are few and far between, whereas that is the only way I am winning/losing at 10/20.

Can the 10/20 game be so different or am I just pissing and moaning because I am amidst a 10K+ downsing?

10-20 is just tougher. The fishes are tougher. The sharks are tougher. The swings are tougher. And both you and I know that 10 or 20 (or even 30) k hands aint nothing... /v

lower winrate = more variance

Your sample size if of course a problem. But, the 10/20 game is a lot tougher than 5/10. The biggest difference is the aggression from loose players. There are far more loose and passive players at 5/10. The LAGs are 10/20 are trickier to play against since you will fold the best hand or be forced to call down with A-high.

All the aggression sure gives you a higher standard deviation and combined with a lower winrate you will see far worse downswings. For example yesterday I played 1000 hands, in the first 500 I won 123BB, but then lost 70BB in the last 500.

Perhaps you need to work on your table selection more if it's not just a variance thing.

Perfect example. Last night I played about 750 hands and lost about 60BB in total. Today I got home, picked 2 tables of 10/20 with high avg pot sizes & all new players(thus no notes/stats-something I like to do to add more players to my list of fish/lags/etc) & immediately started not only getting decent cards, but getting played back at by LAGs on my made hands, getting capped PF by 88, etc. In 1 hour I have overcome what I lost last night. This is great, but..

The same thing is continuing to happen. I don't have good grind sessions, either big winning or big losing sessions. Is this common for other 10/20 and higher players? I for one feel a lot more comfortable grinding out 10-20BB in a night rather than losing 50 one night and winning 100 the next.

Also the loose passives are a different kind at 10/20. Generally much better hand readers than at 5/10 and they will often not let you get away with free showdowns as often if they have anything at all.

It seems fairly clear from all this talk of individual sessions and results after 8k hands that you don't understand variance very well.

I understand variance as well as the next guy. My post is trying to find out how other peoples sessions typically go, not to find out if this "can be" variance because everyone already knows this answer.
