I don't think this river is a value bet, at least for your hand.

There is oodles of value in a river bet. I'd probably just 3bet the flop, but how you played it there are way more hands you beat and which call a river bet than those that dont. Sure he has some weird two pair or maybe hit the jack, but it just doesn't happen often enough to make betting incorrect.

3 bet flop ur hand is vulnerable
turn i like, river is fine
i dont think his play could put him on a 7 and he doesnt have a j very often, most likely 109 10qs maybe even 99 something around that range

I play it the same and I also bet the river for value.

I'm checking a lot of cards behind on the river though. But not a 7. I would probably check a J, Q, K, 8, or 9 on the river here. Which is one of the reasons a turn raise is so great in this hand.

How can someone possibly say 3bet the flop, they question the turn raise, and also say the river is a value bet? Really. I can't think of a better example for non harminous thought. Let's not even discuss which parts are correct or incorrect, just that they can't all be correct.

The flop and turn play was just fine and there is not much to discuss. I can't effectively argue the river value bet beyond what my experience tells me that I don't think you are ahead more than 50% of the time.

Hey guys,

I hate to be the naysayer, but this is not the place to call the flop. The presence of the third player adds too many outs against you in a pot this big to be letting him see a turn card for a single bet (making what's almost surely a profitable call; where's his profit coming from?) rather than 3betting and facing him to fold (huge pot equity increase ahoy) or call 2 bets cold (either profitable to a much lesser degree for him, or he's -EV here). If someone had check-raised your bet and gotten it HU I would call and raise the turn, but you just cannot do it here with a player left to act behind on this board.

In my experience 3betting the flop results in getting this pot HU virtually never. The only chance to protect your hand on the turn. 3betting the flop compounds the problem by making it much harder to protect your hand on the turn due to increased pot odds and making it fairly impossible to get the bb to face 2 bets cold.

With the third player in, you need to 3-bet the flop. You are likely ahead of the raiser but certainly have a vulnerable holding you would like to get heads up.

After that, well played.

good luck.

I don't think you don't quite understand the term "protecting your hand". Try to think about this part of GotT's post:
