Re: a 2/4 NL hand from a while ago
If making it 48 is defining your hand but 36 isn't, I hope you are re-thinking your preflop strategy. In any case, not betting the turn is criminal.

Re: a 2/4 NL hand from a while ago
how much do you bet the turn?
I like a smaller bet there b/c 1. looks like we're drawing (QQ/AA/AKo with A of diamonds) 2. Keeps it cheap (for him to call) but still builds pot for a larger river bet. Remember, every dollar he calls now is at least 1.50 now he's calling on the next street. 3. He may be inclined to raise our cheap bet again (woot, lets push!) |

Re: a 2/4 NL hand from a while ago
I meant to write 1/2 to 3/4. 5/8 would be fine.

Follow up
In the hand Button folded the river pretty quickly.
Pretty much everybody said I should have bet the turn. I think this is right but not that much ahead of checking the turn. The problem came in my turn/river combo. If I check the turn I think I have to check that river. On the flop I think it's a pretty interesting decision. My thoughts were that if I push the flop I'm called by a set, flush, or A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Kx ...and that's it...The thing is I'm getting the money in versus those hands on any non diamond turn also...which is a fair number of turns. So why should I even consider this in his hand range when playing the hand? I mean essentially those hands will play themselves on like 80% of the possible turns. I feel like I should be playing this hand in an attempt to maximize my value versus a weak king, the naked A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], or a bluff. Thus, I'm not completely convinced betting the turn is always correct. I mean if I bet $100 on the turn and he has a weaker king he's either going to raise all in for another $140 or so or fold (Is this correct thinking? I mean if he thinks his hand is good he's going to the felt at this point to try and protect it from some sort of draw I have right?). If he has the ace of diamonds he's going to fold I would think. If he has complete air he's going to fold as raising an additional $140 would not throw me off any hand here other than black queens or black jacks as the pot would be very very big at this point. So then there's the check. If I check I would think his natural instinct would be to protect his hand if he had a king. Thus, he would bet. Once he checks turn I would have to think he either has the A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or was on a flop steal. After that river I think I have to check to hopefully induce a bluff. I also thought about betting $40 on the river for the same reason. I'm not sure my thought process is correct here but what do I know...let me hear your thoughts. Thanks. |
