Default Lucky 7\'s

I recently took my father to foxwoods. He played blackjack while i was in the poker room. He was playing and doing okay when the lady next to him convinced him to place the dollar on the 7 bet. If he got one 7 it paid 5-1, 2 50-1, 3 500-1, and 3 suited was 5000-1. He hit 2 triple sevens unsuited within 2-3 hours. First off we discussed a bit about the odds of him making that exact hand and i was wondering if one of you probability afficianado's could give me the right number, and also how terrible are the odd's the casino pays vs. the probablity of hitting those hands???
thanks
Morg

I'm not going to attempt to answer your question as I'm not a math wiz. But...

Casino Rule number 1: If they giving you say 5:1 payoff on something you can be sure that the odds are at least 8:1 for it to happen.

Forum Rule #1: If you expect somebody here to do some calculations for you, supply all the information. How many decks were in play? Since it was possible for "suited 7s" there were at least 3.

thank you for explaining the two most important golden rules of casinos and twoplustwo.

rule 1....that is priceless advice, i wasnt aware that casinos had an edge in the games that they offer. isnt this a probability forum designed in an effort to reduce those edges or increase our own edges, therefore finding out these numbers is important?

forum rule 2
i wasnt playing. i dont know how many decks they play at foxwoods, since many people here play foxwoods i hoped someone may know. i am no math wiz either, and since you aren't i am lost as to why you responded to this. but my elementary math instincts tell me the answer be a factor of the number of decks anyways? so we don't need the number of decks.

very informative reply and i really got what i was looking for.

I'll help. I've played at Foxwoods and yes the number of desks is important. While more decks hurt the card counter they help making 3 7's more likely.
Foxwoods is dealing 8 decks, so the odds of being dealt 3 7's is 32/416* 31/415* 30/414= 1/2404 times (good deal for Foxwoods).

Notice if we only had 1 deck, you'll hit 3 7's, 1 out 5525.

A general rule with Casinos is that the simple games that offer huge payouts for a small bet (Keno, 3 7's, etc) all have huge advantages for the casino but they do add some fun to games that can be otherwise boring.

I'm sorry!

I didn't realize I was responding to the master of all space time and dimension. I was simply offering some basic insights to help you get some responses from those (obviously there are very few who qualify since you must be the premier oracle of all things important) who could help you. I'll try to refrain from gazing upon your all powerfullness and obstructing your progress in the future.

Pardonez moi!
