Default the rake got me

like anyone cares, but the rake got me, and I'll have to take a hiatus from poker for a while. In a winning year, too. Now, WTF is 2d talking about? Uncle Sam came a calling, and the 30(ish)% rake with no max has taken my BR.

long story short, some stocks were sold in our names (wife's name, by wife's parents), and our capital gains were way higher than anticipated. Hmmm. I have a few grand in cash laying around the house (not anymore), and a bill for...guess what, a few grand. That's the beauty thing about being an amateur. your BR is cash, and not BR. way more liquid than a pro's.

Things to do while I save the paychecks:

fish more. Man I need this.

play 15-30 on a $40 buy in (start at 1-2 and work up in one day). I've always wanted to try this.

Actually study. I have two semesters to go on my MBA, and lord knows that I've been neglecting my studies.

fish more. (did I already say this?=)). Trout season is starting, the halibut are in, stripers are starting to nose around, and, before you know it, the bass will be off the beds (don't fish to spawning fish, regardless of the species).

Boris, I'm headed to Chrissy field on Saturday morning to mess with the 'Butts. Probably windy, so I'll be throwing leadhead jigs on a spinner. check it out if your around.

1-2 up to 15-30? sounds like fun. i made $500 starting at 1-2 and moving up to 3-6. never made it higher just because i stopped moving and went home with my win. but it can definitely be done. 'specially in LA

I tried something similar once, trying to get from the 6-12 to the 20-40. I got to the casino and realized I didnt bring much money, didn't want to go to the ATM until I had to. Started with $60 at the 6-12(the minimum buy-in) and moved to the 9-18 with about $180. I finally got to the 15-30 with around $280 but lost it all there. I was all-in a couple times but won the hands. It was pretty damn fun.

sounds fun. I have license for freshwater. do I need one for salt? Anyways I'm pretty sure I don't have the tackle for saltwater.

the freshwater license is good in any water: salt or fresh.

as to tackle, a rod that can throw 1/2 ounce jigs on about 8lb test would work. plastic baits and rat-l-traps should be the ticket.

I better catch something. I'm working myself up into a frenzy.

i think the saltwater regs. say that no license is needed off of a public pier, otherwise you need one. but i am only 70% sure of this.

I think it's no license on a pier or jetty(surrounded by three sides by water. Boris' license is a general fishing license, though, so it's a moot point.
