Default Was my bet on the flop too weak here?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (3 handed) converter

SB (t2770)
Hero (t2340)
Button (t2890)

Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
Button raises to t400, 1 fold, Hero calls t200.

Flop: (t900) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t500, Button calls t500.

Turn: (t1900) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Button calls t1440.

River: (t3340) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: t3340

Results in white below:
Hero has Ac Kh (two pair, aces and kings).
Button has 5d 5s (three of a kind, fives).
Outcome: Button wins t3340.

I'm a fairly new player, any help would be appreciated. Part of me thinks this guy had no business calling my bet on the flop and that this was a bad beat. But another part of me thinks maybe my bet was a little too weak and I should have bet at least the size of the pot...

It's the sort of bet where he might raise you all in.

If this was your intention then it's fine, If your intention was to lure him in and push on the turn (as you did) then it's probably fine but more open to discussion.

If you bet the 500 because you didn't really have a plan, then it's not fine.

There aren't any draws on the board, so it seems to me that your bet was enough to make it a mistake for any inferior hand to call. Seems big enough to me on that basis.

Mini-raise preflop would not have been my choice though.

He didn't minraise, he called a minraise on the big blind.

I like the bet on the flop. He'll raise you with plenty of hands you beat here, hands that he might well lay down against a check-raise.

Thanks for the help everyone. My initial intentions were to push on the turn (as long as he called my bet - which he did). But after I lost the hand I started wondering if I should have pushed on the flop (or at least made a stronger bet).....at least I'm learning!

Why did you lead out after the flop? Did you consider checking to him then smacking him with a sizable reraise? I think that more often than not he'll take a shot at the pot and you can take the pot right there with a good reraise. Clearly your flop bet wasn't enough to chase him out with a lot of hands. It is a good bet if you're trying to suck him dry. Unfortunately he hit your 0 - 2 slider into the upper deck. I like trying to get him to throw some more chips in here then making a big reraise.

Yeah, afterwards I thought I misplayed that as well.
