Default Why chop on a time charge table?

It occurred to me the other night that convention here in NYC is to offer a friendly chop if the hand is folded to the blinds. My general rule is that I will chop 7-handed or more, but not 6-handed or less. Then I got to thinking: why even chop where the house doesnt rake? Shouldn't you play it out if you think you are a better player? The only reason I could think of chopping was to keep a relaxed vibe at the table and not come off as a dick who gets targeted. I think people chop because they dont like to play HU.

It's a social thing. I chop at time games, but some don't. I don't care if others don't chop - just be consistent all the time and it's fine.

Either as a courtesy, or you don't think you have an edge in those blind v. blind situations.

Because it's nice to chop instead of making 8 people watch 2 people play a silly little pot when you're playing by the 1/2 hour.

Chopping when raken out of any pot that sees flop = good for blinds, or rake starts pretty low.

Chopping on time charge tables = good for rest of table

Word.

Maybe you can outplay them heads up. But if everyone thinks you're a jerk for not chopping, any value you get by the rare times you outplay someone heads up is more than lost anyway. So chop.

I openly announce I don't chop anymore when it's either four or five handed.

Yeah, I don't chop. Perhaps, I should... people don't seem too fond of it.

My chopping requirements are the same as yours. I chop 7 handed because fighting for small pots is pointless unless my goal is to do so all night.

With that said I really like B&M short handed play a lot!

Literally one of the best games I've ever been in was a 20-40 game in Tunica at the Shoe during a nightly tourney. The game nearly broke as everyone left for the tourn, but me and two others stayed. WHAT A GAME. Bigger pots than full and tons of action...I love shorthanded games ALOT.
