Looks okay. I want to say the river 3-bet is bad (don't show he just called next time) but I really can't see him playing an 8 this way, so I like it.

Against a good player, I might just call the turn and pop most rivers. However, your line is fine and I think you played this hand well as a whole. The 3-bet is close but I agree that I don't see him playing an 8 like this. (QT can't be discounted, however)

What were you doing if you didn't improve on the turn?

I didn't have him on an 8, and figured I was in the lead. So I would have bet out on the river too, though wouldn't have 3 bet.

PF is perfect, so that's at least one thing you did right.

the rest looks ok, i think.

pre-flop raise: correct
flop: maybe a raise
turn: raise is good
river: call down his raise.

actually, I think villain played it worse.

Also, show your river action like this:

[ QUOTE ]

River: (7.25 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero ???

[/ QUOTE ]
or better yet:

[ QUOTE ]

River: (7.25 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB raises, Hero ???

[/ QUOTE ]

This way, it does not reveal the result.

Default Conclusion

Heading to bed, so here is the conclusion ... villian held Q10s, for a straight.

I suppose his not capping the river was out of fear i had a full boat.

Wrote a long detailed post and lost it. Bummer.

Key Points.

FLOP:

-Your best action here probably to fold.

- BB's most likely holdings are a Jack, T9, or an eight, in that order. Getting 5:1 is not enough to continue.

- I figured a Jack makes you a 7:1 dog with six outs, but Poker Stove puts a BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] as only a 3:1 favorite. I don't know why. Can anyone advise?

- You could try a peel but proceed causiously if you make your hand.

TURN:
- Your not being causious....
- Just call. BB will fold a Jack here if you raise, so your raise accomplishes little.
- When BB calls the turn raise, put him on an eight or T9 for the OESD.

- Edit after reading thread: I didn't think about QT. This is a little hard to spot and I missed it. BB semi-bluffed the flop for a small bet with a gutshot but semi-bluffs again on the turn improved to an OESD.

- The concept I pointed out on the flop is illustrated here though. 8J on the flop makes some straights which was a reason for you to tend towards folding there.

RIVER:
- BB knows you have a King from your turn raise. He will not call without an eight or some better hand than your King. Check this through.
- Calling the checkraise is not necessary.
- Making a reraise bluff attempt is not going to work unless you knew Villian to be capable of a making a big laydown and you believed he believed you to be a player who would never bluff.
