I\'m bored. I\'m starting over. And I\'m doing an OIC
Even tho I spam other forums with my crap, I'm posting this here cuz this is the forum I consider home. This may shock some of you that I talk to on a regular basis cuz I haven't mentioned it, but its something I've thought about doing in various forms for a while. I went through a really bad run not too long ago, I've finally built my bankroll back up since then to where I'm not in danger anymore. However that scare made me realize that I'm not financially as solid as I would like to be, and it also really really burnt me out on poker (I even thought about quiting all together a few times). I've recovered somewhat from that burnout since then, but I feel it starting to set in again.
So I decicded to cash out my entire bankroll except for 1K and appropraite it to various places in my life where it can go do good work. And to start all over and work my way back up via on OIC challenge. I know on paper this doesnt seem like the smartest thing EV wise. I stand to lose X amount of dollars in the short term, since I'll be playing smaller stakes and what not. But I think in the long run it will benefit me better, as I took care of some stuff financially I no longer have to worry about, and hopefully this will renew my vigor for poker. But either way, I don't care. Its something I thought would be fun to do, and I'm gunna be dead someday anway, so I might as well do things I consider interesting until then. So, what I plan on doing as of today, is starting at .5/1 and working my way up the ladder ala OIC. I'm going to start with $50 and play that limit till I make it to $100, then move up to 1/2 till I get to $300 move up to 3/6 till I get to $500 and then move up to 5/10 and so on. If I drop down to the starting requiments for the level before me, then I will move back down. Lather, rinse, repeat. I'll also be playing some SNGs while I'm doing this (the profits from there don't count towards my OIC BR), just because I don't think its possible for me to sit and only play one table for an extended period of time. I also may split up my BR and 2 table this, or modify it along the way as I see fit. If there is any interest in my progress, I'll post updates along the way. And if anyone feels like joining me, thats cool too. (I dont mean the cashing out of the BR and the short term EV suicide, I mean the OIC part ). see you at the tables |

might be worth posting to see if anyone would be interested in paying you an hourly rate in exchange for you playing something like at least 50k hands.

Re: I\'m bored. I\'m starting over. And I\'m doing an OIC
Hi Alobar,
I've actually just emptied out my bank roll and am doing a very similar thing after a similar huge down swing. I am learning 6 max currently. This should be interesting. I could figure out what OIC means, but what does it stand for? Beer. |

Open Internet Challenge I believe.
Probably someone can find a link to it but essentially start at the bottom, move up when you hit 300bb at the next limit, move back down if you drop a set amount below 300bb (50 maybe?) |

Sometimes you gotta shake things up, regardless of the short term EV.
Good luck, man! |

Re: I\'m bored. I\'m starting over. And I\'m doing an OIC
Do it in Omaha 8 or better. You get all of the same benefits plus you learn a new form of poker (unless you already know it).

Re: I\'m bored. I\'m starting over. And I\'m doing an OIC
This is an excellent idea, and a perfect "escape" for those getting a bit burned out on hold 'em.
Sometimes the best ideas seem so obvious after someone points them out. |

Do it in Omaha 8 or better. [/ QUOTE ] But he said he was already bored. (Kidding, kidding...) Alobar, you might think about doing this in NL if you don't already play that. |
