Default OT: Enough of the \"going for first/third\" crap

Maybe its just me, but it ticks me off when people write "i push cause im going for first" or "i fold cause im going for third". Just make the most +$Ev situation every hand and see what position you end up in. Please.

often, the play is +EV because doing it greatly increases your chances of 1st/3rd as the case may be. but i'm with you, just throwing out the words to justify a play is often wrong and misleading.

I agree, just smile and let them do it. In most cases, they're passing up opportunities that by extension help you and the rest of the players at the table. What's -EV for them has to +EV for someone.

My favorite hand lately. Don't have the HH but it was like this.
Blinds 100/200
Seat 1 $35
Hero $1500 Button
sb $4500
BB $1800

Extreme shorty folds, I fold. SB big stack raises to 600, BB comes over the top. BB had something like K 4, SB had A 9. BB had come over the top of the big stack once too often and loses, going out fourth when all he had to do was wait one more hand for an almost guaranteed 3. Guess he was playing for first!

Conversely, every clown who says "I always play for first" is essentially saying that they would make the very same play.

The reason why people say "I always play for first" is that some people would rather be tough and macho than actually do math or win at poker. These are, obviously, the people you win money from. Why not just call every bet, because "I'm not gonna let some punk push me around!"

Yea, some kinds of threads don't need disclaimers. This kind of thread is one of them.

Nope. The thread at the top of the forum gives the guidelines, and sometimes I edit threads but not this one.

Edit: It would say "edited by durron597" like it does below if I had.
