Garry Kasparov: FIDE rating 2812, possibly the best chess player who has ever lived.

Yuri Dokhoian: FIDE rating: 2580. Weak, completely unknown GM.

Dokhoian has been Kasparov's coach since 1995. Not too many people know that because he is content to make his living and spend his life helping Kasparov win. He is also much younger than Kasparov.

Here is a picture of them. It says a lot.

Also, many people might be surprised to learn that Kasparov's coach played Corky on the early nineties TV drama "Life Goes On."

Even the people from South Dakota laugh at the people from North DakOOOta.

People hire coaches, advisors, consultants all the time. I hired a few in my business days and was never convinced that any of them were smarter, as good at business in general, or had more $$ than me.

To use an analogy, it's sort of like looking into a dirty or warped mirror, we don't always see what is, just what we think is. These kinds of folks, if they are any good, clean up and repair the mirror and stand next to us as we look in it and help us to see clearly what is, perhaps in their particular area of expertise. It's usually up to us to figure out what to do when we can finally see clearly.

I do agree that they are worthless most of the time.. and wouldn't be "consulting" if they actually knew what they were doing.. People who "teach" generally don't know how to "do".

I'm not sure what you're agreeing with, since you apparently didn't understand anything that Barry just wrote.

Was Barry's post written in a language that I unknowingly understand?

He didn't hire a poker coach, and while his post is excellent it's not the testimonial that the Dairy Queen King is looking for.

Jezz, don't you read the thread?

I spent and paid for 2 days with Tommy a few years back and I got a lot out of it in many areas.

But as I was trying to say above, which apparently went right over your head, is what you get out of it, is what you put into it during and after.

One tidbit-

Our first encounter was playing in a 20 game with him and Clarkmiester.

Every now and again after some action of mine, whether it being a betting decision or something else, Tommy would take a note. I knew that I was going to hear about it the next day. I did, and he was helping me to see what was in the mirror.
