Default Call the River?

Live Commerce 20/40 (9-handed)

Hero has 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

Preflop: Limp, limp, Hero limps, 3 folds, limp, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop (6 players, 6 sb): 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

This is NOT a meaningless, "I flopped quads and want to know how to extract the most bets" post. Keep reading.

Check, check, check, bet, Hero calls, fold, call, call, call.

Turn (5 players, 5.5 bb): 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Check, BB bets, fold, UTG+1 raises, Hero 3-bets, SB caps, BB folds, UTG+1 calls two, Hero calls one.

River (3 players, 18.5 bb): 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Check, UTG+1 bets (?!?), Hero calls, SB check-raises, UTG+1 calls, Hero...?

I realize that I'm getting 23.5:1, but I can't imagine that SB doesn't have the case eight.

Am I really > 95% sure he has the nuts?

Reads: Nothing worth noting (this was the fourth hand of the evening).

Hi BoxTree,

This could be the mother of all badbeats. This is an utterly disgusting hand. Damn the yellow chip for no jackpots. Please tell me you made this hand up.

call and show your hand. you may get some sympathy chips from the winner. I guess commerce doesn't have a bad beat for high limits? bummer.

How can you possibly get that much action on the turn and not have someone have an 8? You hold all the deuces, the board is 8822, and you've got THREE other players that showed interest in the pot on the turn, including one guy who check-capped?! How often does that happen and NO ONE has an eight? It just seems phenomenally unlikely. 1 time in 20 feels like a very low estimate to me.

If I ever find myself in this spot, and I pray I don't, I'm going to look at the SB and ask myself if it's possible he's an idiot. Is he on tilt? Does he look like he might be new to the game and could be doing something goofy with aces? Not finding any of these things, I say to myself, man, there's no way I'm good here. I call. Because I just don't have the power to fold quads for 1 bet. I'm weak in this way. Fortunately, it has very little impact on my bottom line.

That said, if YOU chose to fold them, I would have to admit that it's probably right. How can the SB have AA after he completes preflop? No way. He has it.

Of course, before you fold, make damn sure there's no bad beat jackpot.

-Eric

Owwww.

Doesn't commerce have a bad beat jackpot for all games? with a board like that it'd be awful if his kicker didn't play.

If his kicker didn't play, that'd be some shady casino he's playing at...

Results:

I say, "You have quads, too?" And I call. SB looks a bit confused and shows me 87 for the nuts. UTG+1 mucks and says, "Nines." I flip over my deuces. The table groans. SB tosses me four chips. Eh, $20 is better than nothing.

Why on earth would he toss you 4 chips.

As for the river call, I strive to make this lay down. I have practiced it mentally many times (Although not this specific scenario). Not sure if I could lay it down in the heat of the moment, but I should.
