sb might have had QQ-JJ

I raised, if he had an ace i thought he might reraise, so i fold,

however I got free card and a free flush draw,

should I have folded on the flop?

So your trying to get weak hands to fold while simultaneously getting 3-bet by hands that beat you which comprise a much larger percent of his possible holdings?

Yes, fold the flop.

I also at least consider folding the river. Then I call.

Might not the flop raise also yield some information?

You overrate information. This game is about getting money in when you are ahead and folding when you are behind. You are not ahead here often enough.

I think you're probably right. And this again might be a symptom of falling into some nl thinking, where bets often have to be made for info.

I need a button on my brain to switch between strategy for different formats.

Yes, fold the flop.

Hero is getting 13-1 on the flop with 2nd pair and a backdoor nut flush draw, is the flop fold that clear? I can certainly see that the hero is in deep trouble against AA, KK, AK, AQ - but villain might also have QQ, JJ, TT and be taking a stab at a big pot or maybe just has AJs. Is it a bad play to peel one off in position getting 13-1? It might even gain the information you want since those pocket pair hands will be reluctant to fire again on the turn after being called on the flop.

Yeah, I wasn't diligent about counting outs and odds. I think a call here is fine.
