Default Ultimate Backdoor cover

UCLA -1.5 up 1 with 6 seconds left on the 4 yard line, scores as time expires.

luckily i had 1/2 my action at -1 but that was worth a small car for me.

Why did they score again and not just kneel?

It was 4th down: Clock stops on change of possession. Of course, it didn't help that Tedford called two timeouts when the game was hopelessly over.

Cal lost the game because they didn't play to win. They played not to lose. I know its a cliche, but its true here.

1. At the time UCLA ran the fake punt, it was obvious that if they did punt, the game was over. CALL TIMEOUT, gather your defense (and your wits) and put a regular defensive formation on the field. So what if UCLA decides to punt and you have nobody back there - you have a 12 point lead and your O-line is dominating the game.

2. Last CAL drive (while still holding the 5-point lead). On 3rd and 3 from the 45, call timeout and gather your offense (and your wits). Tell the team, they have two plays to get 3 yards and the game is won. Call both plays right there on the sideline. That 3rd down play HAS to be a run there. The O-line was crushing UCLA. Let them finish it off.

I give UCLA a lot of credit for hanging around and making big special teams plays. CAL needs to shoot their special teams. However, I would have rather lost this game 47 - 0 than to walk away from this thinking the better team lost.

Cal's D did an excellent job stopping the pass, but laid down for the running game. The USC game will not be competitive if this remains the case.
