Default 99 against TAG (?)

BB has 26/15 stats, but only after 40 hands. He played decent poker so far. Is this river a check-fold?

Very well played.

It's hard to bet a river that completes a flush and a straight when an overcard came on the turn.

BB's bet here could mean that he has a pair of 8s and is value betting it.

I don't think a TAG would 3-bet x8 preflop

You're right here. I still think you can't fold here.

If he's willing to value bet the one pair despite an overcard, straight, and flush getting there then your check/call on the river is ok. I don't think this fits a 26/15 player though.

Is he likely to try to bluff a river like this? If you think your check can induce a bluff then maybe its worth a try. However, any of the draws you were likely semi bluffing with all hit, so once again I don't think this is the best play.

Why not try bet folding? If villain has a higher PP, which could be likely given the 3 bet preflop then you might just fold him out. It looks like your "semi-bluff" got there after all.

I don't think he is folding the A, but he just smooth called when it hit. Giving free cards with a two flush and possible straight draw on board is incredibly dangerous for him, so I'm guessing he would've raised if it hit him.

If he raises you, then you can give him credit for having made a powerful hand. I don't think you're going to have to worry about someone putting a play on you with this board too often though.

What do others think of the bet/fold line?

I'm not a big fan of a cap preflop. It obviously all depends on what his 3 betting standards are, if he's seen you trying to steal before, etc etc.

He's 3 betting you with any PP larger than 99, a lot of broadway cards to which you're just 50/50 and which he can get away from if he misses and you will have trouble folding to when he hits. Probably there are a couple smaller PP's in there too. I doubt he's doing it with much else. That doesn't make you rank too well against the range of hands he's raising with.

As for doing it to take control of the hand, it totally depends on the read. I tend to think people get tied to the pot if you cap in this spot. There will be 8 SB's in the pot if you cap meaning he's now getting odds to draw to his overcards.
