Index funds. There is Vanguard...what else should I be looking at?

Is there a site that compares different ones, I have heard some good things about Vanguard but maybe there are others that are better to my needs?

Vangaurd is basically the best, they have the lowest cost.

I want something with low fees that I can add around $1000 to each month with no fees for adding new funds.

Vanguard Index Funds. Most of them are called no load funds, which means they dont charge a commission for putting money into the fund.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but if I'm only investing like $1000, what index fund should I buy? Or should I just screw the market fund idea. I was looking or a good S&P 500 index.

Well I believe the minimum (initial deposit) at vanguard is $3000 for the S&P 500 Index Fund.

I would recommend saving until you have the 3k needed. In the mean time I would recommend a CD & savings account at ING Direct. You could put the $1000 into a decent rate CD for a year and try to save ~$150 a month in the 3.5% savings account. At the end of the year you should have just about the 3k you need for the S&P 500 Fund.

IMO a year from now might be a lot better time to invest...
